Going on the campus walk through FGCU helped me to discover
the nature aspect of the campus since I have always spent time I the developed
portion of the campus thus far in my time here at the University. I believe that this site selection of
the FGCU campus was very logical.
It is surrounded by plenty of open area to expand in order to fit the
needs of the growing population of the school and has the options of both
downtown Fort Myers and Naples nearby. The campus is consistent with the
“eco-empowerment” mission of the university as it has taken several different
measures to meet these standards.
Some of the measures taken include solar pannals for energy and dual
flushing toilets, Florida Gulf
Coast University has also placed recycle bins throughout campus, which are
animal friendly in their way of locking shut. FGCU has also maintained their promise of keeping a majority
of the campus undeveloped, as a place for nature and wildlife.
My particular background does not predispose me to a certain viewpoint, however, as I get older and learn more about the evirnoment and sustainability, my viewpoints have changed to be more in favor of environmentally friendly ideas.
